FRINGE REVIEW: Brazil Nuts

Boasting what may be the best 'male' striptease you'll see this Fringe, the one woman show Brazil Nuts contains several hilarious scenes that will leave you gasping for breath.  The play uses the systemic discrimination faced by same-sex couples in the USA to create a storyline where two female lovers, one Brazilian, one American, stage a fake marriage so they can remain together in the USA.  In doing so, the play gently chides the double standards faced by same sex couples in the USA.  While the funny scenes are truly hilarious, the play's pace drags at times, taking away from the overall comedic effect and touching love story.  If you enjoy funny plays that lightly explore and shed light on discrimination, Brazil Nuts will hit the spot for you.

Three out of five stars.
