The Lonely Island

Turtleneck & Chain

With comedians becoming as cool as Kanye, it doesn’t raise many eyebrows when you hear an SNL comedy troupe’s album as massively produced and highly listenable as Turtleneck & Chain. Whether or not you’re in love with Akon, Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Nicki Manaj, Beck and … Michael Bolton, you should be pretty impressed when they all want a piece of this group of ambitious comedy muscle’s vanity/passion project. As the guests play the game on these skits turned songs, their talents are utilized well,  cleverly lampooning their own hooks and style.  And what T & C doesn’t offer in substance, it delivers in well worked over songs, categorical parodying of Top-40 urban radio of old and new, and a seemingly unlimited well of original comic talent from Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone.  As the Lonely Island self-mock about being the socially rejected, you understand that if humour is truly the gateway to the heart, and musicians get all the women, these guys might just have it all.
