Outlier is the most recent effort from ex-Edmontonion, saxophonist Gordon Towell, alongside Amercian peers Jason Tiemann, Steven Snyder, and Glenn Ginn. The work on this album is clearly inspired in part by the groups of Jimmy Smith and Jack MacDuff, and harkens back to those halcyon ensembles. While the production is surprisingly dry, the performance level is unquestionably high, with incredible solos from all members of this ensemble, but particularly from the not-so-surprisingly sensational Steven Snyder. The disc can now be found on iTunes and is well worth your while to track down. Everything contemporary jazz to blues and groove based music is touched upon in this musical journey.
